I never set out to be a promoter of “Going Green” but personal experience and love for my family led me down the road of doing things differently. While performing my daily cleaning routine, I was disinfecting one of the bathrooms when I started to get lightheaded from most likely the fumes given off by my bathroom cleaner. Reading the label doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand this is strong stuff, just look at the list of ingredients or “Toxic!” and “Flammable” warnings stamped on the bottle.
If you have small kids or pets in the house you have to be more cautious as they’re more vulnerable due to higher exposure levels related to their smaller size. Did you know the National Poison Control Center reports household cleaning supplies are one of the top five substances accounting for emergency calls to their agency? Time to start rethinking the way we do things and ask if there are safer ways to achieve the same results.
If your experience is like mine then you’ll feel better with green cleaning products – literally. Unlike conventional cleaning products, my cleaners contain ingredients like Betula Alba (Birch) Bark extract, Geranium Maculatum (Geranium) Oil and Cananga Odarata Flower oil, all things that won’t harm you, your family, or your pets. All that coughing, sneezing, headaches, rashes and more disappeared once I stopped using toxic cleaning chemicals. If you look at how many hazardous chemicals are in conventional products, they’re often carcinogens, neurotoxins, mutagens, or endocrine disrupters, you quickly realize its probably a good idea to get rid of them.
A decision to switch to green cleaning products is also a step to protect our environment and pass on a cleaner world for our kids. Most ideal green cleaning products are made using sustainable manufacturing practices and naturally derived, safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable ingredients that don’t negatively impact the environment. On the other hand, some conventional cleaning products contain ingredients that are toxic, hazardous, non-biodegradable, and from non-renewable resources like petroleum.
The best part of all, my house smells like a flower garden! Its refreshing to know you’re providing a safe home without sacrificing your standards for cleanliness. This is the same experience I like to bring to my green home cleaning service – a smile on a customer’s face after my first cleaning, when they smell that freshness and realize they’ve achieved a higher standard of cleanliness without the use of those harmful chemicals. Win-Win!
